What Is A Body Candle?
A Body Candle, most simply put, is a cosmetic device which uses the warmth from a lighted wick to warm a solid cosmetic or food grade (USP) oil to a comfortable skin safe temperature, and also function properly as a candle. But our candles are much much more than just Soy Wax with a Wick...it's more like a wick in lotion! Body Candles are made with ingredients approved by the FDA and are everything you'd expect from a wonderful lotion with the added aspects that make candles wonderful. We've even won awards to prove it.
There are a lot of other candles out there that want to be Body Candles. The fastest way to tell the imposters is price. If the candle is cheap, you may want to look twice. For example an 9oz candle that can be purchased for $10-$15 (retail), is probably mostly made of wax. Wax is cheaper and is used as a filler to reduce the cost. Robbing you of the soy butter, shea butter, jojoba, aloe that your skin really needs.
Here's a fun fact that should help you tell the difference: Did you know that Vitamin E is a naturally occurring element of soy wax? So, if the massage candle lists no other ingredients other than Vitamin E...chances are that the product contains mostly or only soy wax.
Again it is a cosmetic and must be designed to meet the testing standards for a candle. In general it is unwise, if not extremely unsafe, to poor the liquid fuel from a standard candle directly on your skin, to do so may result in serious skin damage.

What Is Soy Wax?
Soy wax is a marketing term used in the candle industry when referring to a solid candle fuel made exclusively or almost exclusively from hydrogenated soybean oil. The proper (INCI) labeling for Soy Wax on a Body Candle is Hydrogenated soybean. For more see 'The Joy of Soy'

What Is Paraffin?
Paraffin is a petroleum product - a byproduct of oil refining. As a result, it contains dangerous toxins and carcinogens such as benzene, acetone, lead & mercury when burned. Moreover, paraffin produces more soot, coating ceilings and walls, damaging your home; paraffin burns at a higher temperature meaning that is burns faster; it is not water soluble or biodegradable; and many people get headaches around paraffin candles due to the toxins emitted. For more on Paraffin see 'What's The Difference?'

Are Soy Wax And Paraffin Similar?
Soy Wax and paraffin are similar in as much as they are both solid fuels used in making candles. This is however where the similarities end. Soy wax is a natural product made from fully hydrogenated soybean oil and is primarily composed of the two fatty acids, palmitic and stiric acids. Paraffin however is a petroleum product and while similar in structure lacks the oxygen of the soy wax thus making it completely insoluble in water ergo, nearly impossible to clean from furniture, carpeting and clothing. Also owing to its petroleum ancestry, unless the paraffin is food grade (USP), it likely contains volatile and toxic compounds. For more on Paraffin see 'What's The Difference?'

How do I use the Body Candle?
I just light The Body Candle and within minutes I have lotion ready to be used. Then I put out the flame, dip a finger in the liquid or pour a small amount of liquid out of the lip of the containers. When done, let the Body Candle cool..the liquid will re-harden permitting additional use at a later time.

What are some uses for The Body Candle?
The Body Candle works like any other candle. You can burn it for ambiance and great fragrance or use the liquid as a lotion. Use the oil for massage, or rub it into your cuticles during manicures and pedicure treatments.

Does the Body Candle hurt when you use it?
Unless you put your finger or other body part directly in the flame, the Body candle is painless and actually feels quite nice. By using cosmetic grade soy oil rather than traditional waxes, such as paraffin or beeswax, we are able to offer a candle in which the safe, comfortable, and warmed oil can be directly massaged into the skin , leaving the skin smooth, soft, and pleasantly scented. Hypo-Allergenic.

How Long Will A Body Candle Last?
This really depends on the size of the candle, the amount of fuel used by the flame versus the amount used as massage oil. Our four fluid ounce product is nominally rated for 15 hours, and our two fluid ounce product for 8.

Who shouldn't use The Body Candle?
If you're allergic to nut based products, then the Body Candle is not for you. The Body Candle also contains jojoba oil, soy, and shea oils. If you are allergic to any of these items please do not use The Body Candle.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: Never let children see you dip your hands into a massage candle. Although it is true that massage candles burn much cooler than other candles; a child will not know the difference between a "lotion candle" and a paraffin candle. Top
